The Expendables 3 (2014)

Trailer

The Expendables as a series has always been about inside jokes and seeing certain actors sharing scenes together for the first time or reuniting from their glorious 80's past. The Expendables 3 does hit the mark in that regard and some of the jokes that were obvious nods to their former selves did get a big laugh from me (Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Chopper' line, Wesley Snipes 'tax evasion' and 'Blade' quotes, Antonio Banderas shooting his guns ala Desperado, etc...). The 3rd installment to the series holds it's own. It's not as good as E2, but it does it's job of big explosions and stunt work. But I think it's time for Sylvester Stallone to end the series now. There's nothing left. With that said, I thought Mel Gibson was great as the Big Bad, channeling his psychotic Martin Riggs personae. Harrison Ford was fun, basically reprising his Air Force One President role. But it was Antonio that stole the movie. Who would ever have guessed that he would be cast for comedic jester. He was f*cking hilarious and had me laughing at all his lines and reactions. It was weird to see Ronda Rousey in this 4 weeks after her brutal beat down. Anyway, this is another throwback to 80's pomp and if you like those flicks, E3 is worth a Rent.

Loved Antonios character. Besides him, I liked they edited the action more tolerable. 1 & 2 gave me headaches and I'm pretty sure I never finished either one.

And speaking of this movie, I just found out the resort will be showing it at a makeshift outdoor theater tonight. I'd like to check it out just for kicks. But we have dinner plans... And my wife would never give this a go.

So, did you guys get the chance to check out the flick at that outdoor venue? Fun times?

No, we were out long after it must have been over. I'll try to remember it next time.

I'm watching it now.  Spurned on by watching the very entertaining documentary about Cannon Films "Electric Boogaloo" and they mentioned that Nu Image and stuff like The Expendables are direct descendants of movies like Delta Force and Invasion USA.

Well, I watched Furious Seven first.  Have some thoughts about that.  But it seemed like a good thing to double feature with Expendables 3.

One thing I like is that I straight-up forgot who all was in these flicks, so I was actually surprised and happy when Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford show up, even though I knew they were both in the movie.
