Game of Thrones (Season 3 - 2013)

I don't know where to begin. Season 3 has so much going for it that it just might be my favorite season of Game of Thrones so far. I guess it would only be fitting to start with the infamous Red Wedding. A little back story first. I don't have Showtime. So I have to wait patiently for my DVD copy to arrive in order to watch this and because of that, I needlessly put myself throught torture of having to avoid spoiler after spoiler after spoiler. All I heard for what seems like a year was talk of the Red Wedding and every damn time it came up, I went running in the opposite direction. Now in the time that it had originally aired to the time I got the DVD in my grubby little hands, I did however speculate what could be so shocking that made this a water cooler episode. Given the fact that I watch a lot of other shows and at the time shortly after Season 3 had concluded, I did come up with one name at forefront that may have played a big role in it: Lady Stark (Michelle Fairley).

I kept seeing Fairley pop up more and more on other series like 24: Live Another Day and Resurrection, which could only mean one thing....they killed her off during the Red Wedding. I was right and that's all I thought was going to happen. Boy, was I ever wrong on that account. I never once thought that it would be a bloodbath....a massacre that also saw Robb Stark and his Wife perish as well. It's true. Everything you've heard about this is definitely one for the ages. To say it's 'shocking' is an understatement of epic proportions. I will say that I was off on another part of this. I thought that the Red Wedding would have Joffrey involved in some way. I thought it was HIS wedding and that he may have had her killed.

As great as the episode was, it's not a season-make. There is plenty to love about Season 3. For starters, the writers and the film editors have done a magnificent job of keep all the stories top shelf. It would be easy for a couple of characters to get the short end of the stick, but no matter how "small" their screen time may be, it plays as something very vital to the series as a whole. So many characters and yet, you never feel lost. Another great thing about this season is the unusual pairings of a a couple of characters, the first being Jaime Lannister and  Brienne of Tarth and the other pairing of course is Arya and Sandor Clegane, the Hound. This offers two sets of characters opposite ends that will form some sort of bond. Although Arya is a bit slower for obvious reasons. Love the addition of Iwan Rheon, who I have not seen or heard from since his exit from Misfits. So much more to talk about. Ask me. Lets dissect this season from start to finish. Anyway, I highly recommend this one as a must-Buy.

FYI, Joffrey is still a spineless piece of sh*t. Just sayin'.
