Hardware Wars
Collector's Edition

Trailer

Back when I first saw this in 1978 on HBO, I thought this was hilarious. Hell, what did I know? I was just a kid and didn't know any better. Hardware Wars is basically a parody of Star Wars in a no-budget 12 minute flick. Yup, that's the entire run time. The quality of the movie is pretty bad, even for an amateur film. But they were going more for humor than actually replicating iconic scenes from the movie they were making fun of. So, how does this hold up all these years later? It's still pretty bad. But names like Auggie "Ben" Doggie and Ham Salad still gets me smiling more than anything else. If you have never seen this, I think you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. Rental at best.

This was (and might very well be) the best performing short film of all time, made back its' (somewhat intentionally) meager budget several times over.

The producer, Michael Weiss, now publishes lots of books about the film industry, including the revered "Save The Cat" and I believe "Your Screenplay Sucks," which was a total revelation when I first read it (and still is, to be sure).
