Ghostbusters
Collector's Series

Right place, right time. I remember exactly how it felt watching Ghostbusters on opening night, more specifically, what the crowd reaction was in the theater. It was electric. Probably one of the most animated crowds I've ever been associated with and with good reason. Simply put, the movie kicks ass. Well, it did back then. What I mean by that is, by comparison and the age of the movie, the plot itself is very simple and the Special FX extremly dated by today's standards. Hell, it was dated a couple years after the movie came out. But what makes Ghostbusters a movie that you can still watch all these years later is the stellar cast that includes Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and scene stealer Rick Moranis.

As great as the cast was, I still to this day think about what could have been had John Belushi not died and got around to doing this. Would it have been better? Who's to say with the movies eventual success and how everyone looks to Bill Murray as the star that carries the film. But that doesn't make me not think of some pretty outlandish gags Belushi would have brought to the table in the same role. I do think that had Belushi been alive, the story itself and Dan's role would have been drastically different so that they could play off of each other. Sigh. We will never know....

I highly recommend this as a Buy. I own the Collector's Series Edition. I'm sure there are better versions out there now and ones with more Bonus content. So, pick and choose which best fits your needs.

A little off topic....1984 was a great year for me. First Ghostbusters came out and then later the Padres made it to their first World Series, which was an even bigger event for me. When the Padres were down 0-2 games, the San Diego Fans came up with a rallying cry set to the beat, with lyrics to the song made famous by Ray Parker Jr. Of course the new song was called appropriately enough....Cub Busters. Haha.

Totally enjoyable movie, though no one really thinks about the core of the flick, about a group of friends with an odd talent going into business for themselves.  I love the fact that they're constantly on the brink of bankruptcy, working and living out of a crumbling old fire house, cobbling together all the technology they need, making cheap TV commercials... it's very down to earth and I think a big part of why people responded so well to the movie is because of that, they're not sleek or hi-tech, everyone in the movie is more or less a regular person-- and much more, a New Yorker-- that everyone could easily connect to.  You feel like you could run into or hang out with any of the characters and that's big.

I was thinking about that very thing while watching the movie today and the low-tech approach they took. I was also thinking about the proposed "reboot" with a younger cast and if they decided doing a straight up reboot instead of GB3, just how would it look. My guess is if they do the reboot, all the equipment is going to be state of the art, high-tech gadgets with all the bells and whistles, which would suck. I rather see the team catch Ghost with a Tin Can, Nylon String and a Toothpick.

At the very least they could do an evolution a la the first Iron Man.

The Story Behind Bill Murray And Harold Ramis’ 21 Year Rift

A must-read. This isn't directly related to Ghostbusters. I just didn't have any other place to put this. Still a fascinating read to see how well they worked together and how it all fell apart.

‘Ghostbusters’ Cast Reunites For ‘Entertainment Weekly’

Pretty cool. It's just a shame that Harold Ramis isn't around to be a part of this.
