Blackfish is one of the most breathtaking documentaries and definitely the scariest one I have ever seen in my life. You think you have seen it all, but you haven't seen sh*t until you have seen this film. Sure, we have all seen small snippets here and there over the years when it's reported on the news about another trainer being attacked by a Killer Whale at an amusement park. But just like the handful of former
Sea World employees that make up this documentary, they, along with the majority of the public, had / have never seen a lot of the footage that takes place here with regards to said attacks.
Seeing these majestic
Orcas in their natural habitat is truly something to see and savor and the film does paint a picture that even in captivity everything is all roses. That is until the filmmakers dive deeper (pun intended) and expose a lot of the whitewashing that
Sea World does to curry favor from the public that spends money at their parks. To see the middle section of the doc will leave you stunned and horrified at what's captured on film. To see Trainers being mauled, crushed, slammed, arms and legs being snapped and in one case, a Trainer being dragged down to the bottom of the tank will leave you literally holding your breath. It's spine tingling scary. Bone chilling in every way imaginable. Even though I have been to
Sea World as a kid (where I literally live 5 minutes from it my entire life), it has changed how I now perceive it to be. I will NEVER be able to drive past it ever again and not think of the things that I saw in
Blackfish. I highly recommend this as a
Rent.
