Season 2 of
Orphan Black is just as good, if not better than the first season for a couple of reasons. First off is that the story deepens as we start to peel the layers of the overall conspiracy of the Clones and who is behind it all. They don't give it all away here, but they definitely open up more, setting up
Season 3 which I can't wait to dive into. The other thing that makes
Season 2 awesome is of course
Tatiana Maslany. I of course raved about her performance in Season 1, but I think she actually outdoes herself (pun not intended) this season. The Helena character was somewhat of a "minor" character in the first season, but this season they expanded it a great deal and
Tatiana just knocks it out of the park. The more I watch her perform, the more I start believing these are are wholly original people.....not characters. The fact that she is able to do this with such ease is stunning. You can add another Clone to the mix as they give us
Tony, a transgender played by
Tatiana. It's a bit startling to see her with a goatee, but you eventually get past it. Loved the scene where all the sisters (minus
Rachel of course) are finally under one roof with
Helena. It was actually a very emotional scene and another example of the stellar FX this show is able to produced. It's all seamless.
I also like the addition of new characters, some very well known to me. The biggest get is
Michelle Forbes, who I have followed since the mid-80's when she had her breakout role in Guiding Light. Ironically enough, it was playing Twins, one good and one oh-so EVIL!. So I am always thrilled to see her pop up on my favorite shows and this was another one of those treats. Another addition was Cal, as played by
Michiel Huisman. I first saw him in Nashville. So it was cool to see him here as well. The other addition was that of
Andrew Gillies, the Scientist and father of
Rachel. He looks like an older version of
Robert Forster and sounds exactly like
John Wood. That would be
Dr. Stephen Falken from
WarGames if you don't know the name. All in all, this was a very satisfying season. Highly recommend this as a
Buy. Now bring on
Season 3!!!
