The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Trailer

I'm really at a loss for words as to what I think about The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. In a nutshell, this movie is pretty bad and another flop on Steve Carell's resume. But damn it, there are some insanely laugh out loud moments. Really not sure why I found myself laughing so much throughout the movie when it was clear that the movie as a whole is bad. Maybe it's the absurdity of what is taking place at the moment that makes it funny. Case in point, Burt (Carell) doing his 2-Man show as a stand alone act. This was damn funny. It has to be seen to be believed. Just combining and changing the script for two people into one is hilarious! Another funny moment was when Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) decides to sleep on red-hot coals. Can it be done? Who cares. Watching him alternate between sleeping and screaming in agonizing pain had me busting a gut. Another great sight gag was Carrey 'Holding in his p*ss' as long as he could. Silly and childish sure, but it worked, making me laugh the entire time.

Overall, Burt Wonderstone is only slightly better than Dinner For Schmucks, but it's well below his best flick to date, The 40-Year Old Virgin. But in the end, this is still a Skip in spite of the few laughs that I did get from it. Wasted cast that also includes Steve Buscemi, Alan Arkin, Olivia Wilde, Jay Mohr, John Francis Daley and James Gandolfini.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone DVD Screencaps

I already posted them here. I made them disappear. How's that for a magic trick?

This movie sucked... especially because it seemed like there was no effort put into it, it had so much potential.  I mean, you tell me anything about this movie, and I think...

* Steve Buscemi is going to be a central character in a big comedy?  Finally?  Nope, he's gone pretty quick.

* It's comedians doing magic, are they going to be like crazy, funny magic tricks no one's thought of before?  Nope, regular old stuff.

* Oh, I bet there's gonna be tons of cameos from famous Vegas magicians, right?  Nope.

* Oh, we're gonna see Olivia Wilde in, like, a showgirl outfit-- probably as a misdirect, right?  Nope.

I forgot about that.  But it definitely ranks at the bottom of my issues with the movie.

I am curious what John Francis Daley thought of the movie, given the fact that he wrote the screenplay. Does the movie make him feel like a Freak or a Geek?  ;D

Every time I see his name in a writing credit, I think "...Sweets?"
