Gravity (2013)

Gravity
Two-Disc Special Edition

Trailer

As you guys are while aware, I never go to the movie theaters any more for alot of different reasons: Crowds, Price, Time, etc....And in the time that I have all but abandoned my local movie plexes, very few, if any movie that has come out in that time has made me regret not seeing it on the Big Screen. Well, you can absolutely add Gravity to that very, very short list. Having just watched one of the most epic, breathtaking, beautiful movies I have ever had the pleasure of watching, I totally regret not seeing this when it came out. With that out of the way, this has been on my Hold List for a long time and my copy just arrived yesterday at my Library. In the time the movie came out, a lot of praise has been heaped on Gravity and because of that, my expectations have never been higher for any film in the last 10-15 years and I am so stoked that not only did it meet my expectations, it far exceeded them.

THIS is why we go to movies. THIS is what movies are meant to do. THIS is how you transport the viewer into a world that we will never get to experience in reality. I was totally transfixed from the opening second to the final scene. I went through so many emotions while watching Sandra Bullock give the performance of her life and she was AMAZING in the role. She made me falll in love with her all over again. Not that I ever stopped being in love with her mind you, but you get the idea. George Clooney was cool self as always. I did manage to keep everything spoiler-free going into this, so I was very surprised to see him exit the movie so soon. But it was a great way to go as the ultimate sacrifice.

This is an absolute must-Buy for sure. This is a movie that I want to come back to time and time again because beyond the exceptional acting, the Cinematography, Direction, Writing and Special FX are superb. I can't stop gushing about Gravity. EPIC in so many ways. Heading to eBay to see if I can score me a steal on the Two-Disc Special Edition DVD. I even want to grab me the Musical Score too because it's that damn good. FYI, if they ever re-release Gravity on the Big Screen, I can guarantee you 100% that I will not miss it this time.

Gravity was AMAZING on the big screen... and in 3D?  Oh my gosh.  The only thing missing was an extra chill in the air and jostling seats, this thing should have been a ride (does ANYONE have D-Box?  Does D-Box actually work?).  It's an easy bet that the flick will be in theaters again.

I'm glad you brought up the 3D. I didn't know that it was released in 3D, but while watching the movie play out, I kept telling myself over and over if there was ever a movie that NEEDS to be in 3D, it's THIS!!!!! Another reason why I intend to see this on the Big Screen. I feel like I only saw "half" the movie because I missed out on the 3D aspect. Sigh.

Moviing on. As you know, I have a tendency to "write" in my head while watching whatever movie I'm watching just to see if what I came up with is met at the end by the film maker. In the case of Gravity, I started imagining that the people on Earth were all watching this disaster taking place. We have the technology (especially in Hollywood dreamland) of having the events transpiring up in space to be broadcast to the entire world. So, that was my initial thought that I ran with. When it comes to the scene where Ryan (Sandra Bullock) voices her concern that no one knows here, no one will remember her and no one will pray for her, this was the opportunity to answer that fear at the end when she lands back on Earth, that EVERYONE knows her now. That's what I was hoping for at the end. Even though it didn't play out that way, it doesn't take away from the awesomeness of the movie.

So, I just got finished watching Aningaaq - A Short Film. Not sure if this was released on the bare bones DVD or not. But this is the other half of the conversation that Ryan has inside the pod when she is sending out an SOS for help. I'm glad they made this short because for me, the scene was one of my favorite and most profound moments in the entire film

Yep, this was awesome on the big screen. Frankly, I'm not sure how I would take the small screen. The visuals were epic in size and getting reduced, might miss some things. Nonetheless, I still agree, a must see.

I did not see thru 3D. I've totally give up on that. Sure there would have been some cool scenes, but not enough to justify the glasses thing.

This is one of the few movies that justifies the glasses... you feel like YOU'RE wearing a space helmet too!  Really, the only thing missing was us jostling around in our seats.

I'm totally agreed on the small screen issue... it's one of those movies that makes me want one of those 60" tvs I see at Best Buy.

Well, I do know that my next TV will be in the 50 inch range. Not sure if I could manage 60 due to price as well as available real estate to park it in my room. I just may have to christen said new TV by re-watching Gravity:)

The trick is to not get a NEW 60", and it's probably worth looking into (reputable) off-brands.  I'm constantly keeping my eyes open for deals on giant TVs and there are some like Vizio that look like great bargains.   And I'm not much into smart TVs, an old dumb TV with a big screen and a reasonable price does more for me than a new big smart TV with lots of functions I already have boxes for.   I don't trust "smart."

I don't have any problems looking at "lesser" name brands. There are certain specs that I want mind you, but the biggest thing for me is longevity and I keep an eye on TV's that have gone bad under the 2 year warranty. Sure, the warranty covers it, but if they are going bad prior to that, it's a safe bet it's gonna crap out again after the fact too. Samsung lately seems to be getting a lot of negative feedback so they are more or less off my list of those I'm going to buy from.
