Green Lantern

Trailer

I know very little about Green Lantern and the mythology surrounding Hal Jordan and the rest of the universe they inhabit. The only time I've read anything with regards to the character is when he would appear in a few other books I would be reading. Never have I read any of his stand alone titles. Okay, we are all caught up in my lack of knowledge on all things Green Lantern.

I'm coming into this movie having said that I would never ever watch this based on all the negativity surrounding this film. But since I am on my "Worst Comic Book Movie Of All Time" kick, I thought I'd get this one out of the way, much like I did with Batman & Robin. A lot has been said about the costume that Ryan Reynolds wears in Green Lantern and how it's made up 100% of CGI. On the outside, one with no knowledge, I thought this was very strange. But there is a moment early in the film when Hal Jordan is basically getting schooled on the history of the Lanterns, it's mentioned to him that the suit is generated by energy from all living things in the universe. So, for me this actually makes sense in why the Director chose to do the suit in CGI. But it doesn't help matters that it still looks pretty lame and stupid though. Even worst than the suit is the mask he wears. Dumb.

So, what about the rest of the movie? Sad to say, it really is a pretty bad movie. There isn't a whole lot to like about it. It's more FX Set Pieces whis is expected, but they really aren't all that impressive and they don't last long enough to even get to enjoy them on a technical standpoint. Also, the characters, namely the actors, are boring. I had zero emotional connection to anyone on the screen. So, I just didn't care for what happened. The only character that seemed interesting enough to want to see more of was Sinestro. If you stay past the end credits, it's clear that they are setting up a potential sequel. Will it happen? Probably. Will I see it? Probably not, unless they (writers, producers, director) go about fixing a lot of what made this one a fail in my book.

So, is this the worst Comic Book movie of all time? Not even close. That honor goes to the first Hulk movie. At least in Green Lantern there were moments that looked cool and entertained somewhat. Is this better than Batman & Robin. Only slightly. This is definitely a Skip.

Green Lantern DVD Screencaps

I may add Screencaps just to study what went wrong. But not right now.
