Grosse Pointe Blank

Trailer

Whenever I watch Say Anything....I always follow it up with Grosse Pointe Blank. Why? Well I've always thought of Grosse Pointe Blank as being the unofficial "sequel" to Say Anything. Neither movie has anything to do with the other. Different characters and different stories. But 3 actors from Say Anything pop up in Grosse Pointe Blank, those being John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Jeremy Piven. Getting back to why I call it a "sequel", I picture Lloyd Dobler quitting the idea of being a Kickboxer and becoming a professional Hitman instead. It actually works when you watch this movie because the past of the other movie merges into this one.

Simply put, Grosse Pointe Blank is about a Hitman that returns to his hometown for his 10 Year High School reunion and reignites with an old flame played by Minnie Driver. Speaking of Minnie, she is absolutely adorable in this one. Love the character, but love Minnie even more. This is clearly a John Cusack movie, but its two actors that have the smallest roles in this one that leave the biggest mark. Both Joan Cusack and Dan Aykroyd steal the movie in their respective roles. Joan plays Martin Blank's (John Cusack) secretary with a potty mouth and an attitude that could kill and Aykroyd plays Grocer, a rival Hitman going up against Martin.

All in all this is a fun movie that mixes a few genres into one: Crime/Rom-Com/High School. They pulled it off extremely well. Usually when a movie is written by 4 different writers, it's a bad sign. But in the case of this movie, they nailed it. I own this and can say this is definitely a Buy. Fantastic soundtrack as well.

How could you not mention the soundtrack?

Yeah, I have seen this film and I do like this film.  In fact, I do OWN this film.

Have you seen War Inc by any chance?  Not a great flick but John Cusack pretty much reprises this role as a hitman on assignment in corporate-controlled middle east.

War, Inc is in fact considered the "unofficial" sequel to Grosse Pointe Blank. Will be watching that soon and posting my review on that as well.
