Herbie Fully Loaded (2005)
« on: June 15, 2013, 08:28:33 pm »

As a really small tyke, I enjoyed The Love Bug / Herbie films. They were Disney flicks so it was actually mandatory that I watch them. Even as a kid, I thought they were pretty hokey, but they were still fun to watch. I knew that Herbie Fully Loaded was out in the theaters a few years ago, but I had moved on from these types of films, especially the Disney flicks geared more toward kids and families. It didn't appeal to me at all and this was the last movie I ever saw myself watching. Up till now, the only connection I even had to this movie was the music video by Lohan and even that didn't really make me want to see this one. But I knew that I would wrap up my Lindsay Lohan Marathon with this one as I needed to finally cross this one off my list.

Herbie Fully Loaded was exactly what I expected the movie to be. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that the majority of the movie felt like a made-for-TV-movie that would air specifically on The Disney Channel. Everything was predictable with no real surprises. But I did enjoy the movie for the most part. Definitely worth a Rent. I wasn't aware that the movie also had Matt Dillon, Michael Keaton, Justin Long. Breckin Meyer and Cheryl Hines, since I knew very little about the production of the film.

You know, I don't remember anything that happened in any of the Herbie movies.  Though I remember seeing bits and pieces of this one and I remember thinking "the actual Herbie didn't feel like this, did it?"  And I think I remember the commercials suggesting that Herbie was anthropomorphic, showing him smiling and winking or something and I'm pretty sure that didn't happen in the movie.

That's one of the things about Herbie Fully Loaded kind of failed on and that was the Bug's personality. I don't know if it was a conscious decision on the director part to dial it back here, but in the original series, the car had a lot more "personality". It was always getting himself into sticky situations and whatnot. In Fully Loaded, not so much.
