Inception (2010)
« on: September 04, 2011, 12:45:08 am »

Inception is either a Love It or Hate It proposition. There really doesn't seem to be a middle ground when it comes to this movie. I for one love it and find everything about it to be near perfect. This movie is the brainchild of Christopher Nolan, the man behind Memento. If you've seen that one, then you have a pretty good idea of what to expect here. This is not a dumbed-down story for mass consumption. You have to really pay attention to the small details to fully understand and get the movie. If you take your eyes off the screen, you are bound to get lost. And I think that's where the other half, those that Hate It, fall into. I hear the criticism from those that complain that it's confusing or doesn't make sense.

Everything about this movie is amazing, from the cast (Leonardo DiCaprio once again, knocking another one out of the park, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe and Ellen Page ) to the incredible Sound FX to the Special FX and of course the story. I get more out of stories that I have to actually think about and keep up with because at the end of the day, there is a sense of accomplishment in being able to watch something that's considered "confusing", which I never felt one bit that it was.

Anyway, this is definitely a Buy.

I agree, this is a definite buy.  The performances are top notch, and the audio/video for this Blu-ray was incredible.  The story has you thinking even months after you've watched it.  Another brilliant Nolan film!

I went over to my Mom's to loan her the DVD so that she could check it out. I figured this was right up her alley since she is a huge fan of Memento. Alas, she was lost within' the first dream scenario and could never recover and follow the thread to the end. She watched it all...but had no idea what was going on. I may try again.

Yeah, like Memento, you need to pay attention.  However, unlike Memento, there is no linear pattern to the story, but it does go from flashback to dream, to reality to flashback, etc.  If you are not aware of the difference then everything would be confusing.

What's your guys thoughts on comparing this to Source Code. These are definitely thinking man's movies. You just don't watch... you think. I got Inception and thoroughly enjoyed it. I watched Source Code, but honestly don't think I got it. I kind of enjoyed it, but it don't rock my boat like Inception. I love sci-fi, but seem to be kicking myself for not getting it like others have enjoyed it.

Is there even a comparison? Is it the director? The characters? The actors? I dunno. (shrug shoulder's)

Source Code is a completely different kind of movie. I thought both were very excellent, but there is really no comparing the two.

I think I need to check out Source Code so I can know what you guys are talking about instead of just nodding my head in agreement to make you guys think I know what your talking about.  ;D

Well, since it is about time travel, maybe you'll get a lot sooner than you think.  :o
