Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Trailer

It's been awhile since I have watched this. Seems like every couple of years this movie finds its way into my DVD player. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow can best be described as a mash up between Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Jurassic Park, with a lot of nods of other influences thrown in for good measure. I'll even throw in The Rocketeer too with it's jet pack sequence and of course The Iron Giant. There are a lot of cool set pieces and the Special FX, although impressive never over indulges itself or stands out compared to what you would get in a "contemporary" film so as not to overshadow the retro feel of SCATWOT. I won't ruin it for you here for those that have not seen the movie, but the ending with regards to Polly's (Gwyneth Paltrow) camera was humorous and a nice way to close out the film.

It's a fun adventure flix that is sure to entertain most people. Definitely a Rent, even though I own the DVD.

I own the movie too and just love the gorgeous art deco look and vibe of the film. Paltrow clearly the weak link in this flick. Her acting is so wooden and imagine it had to do with all the blue screen. She just didn't know what to act against. Other than that, a pure fantasy adventure film for me. Mindless entertainment at it's best.
