Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief  (2015)

Having just finished reading Leah Remini's book, which name drops Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief as the source of what ended up getting her into trouble, I was definitely going to check this out. This Doc makes a great double feature to her book. I would say to read her book first and then watch the film because it brings everything into light and clears up a few things that I just found to be confusing with all of these policy names. Having just watched this, I think it's safe to say that I will probably never bother watching another Tom Cruise flick again. He, along with the leader of the "Church" and LRH are quacks. Seriously, they are pulling off the biggest con job ever on desperate people looking for help and it infuriates me that this is happening. A lot of the film is about Cruise and he does not come out of this looking good at all. John Travolta is also talked about, but not to the extent of Cruise. If anything, where I have nothing but disdain for Cruise while watching the doc, I actually feel sorry for Travolta. I think he is trapped and being blackmailed to stay with them because they have dirt on him. This whole thing about their auditing class they go through is kind of genius if you think about it. LRH and DM are basically the equivalent of J. Edgar Hoover in gathering as much Intel through their parishioner's auditing confessions and then using said Intel against them to keep them in check. This is a very well-produced doc that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Definitely worth a Rent.
