This is the first time I have watched
Jaws 2 in its entirety in over 30 years. I saw it in the theater, even though
Jaws scarred me for life. I still had to see this. And then I saw it a few more times in the early years of
HBO. And that was it. Over the years, I built this up to be better than it really was. Having just watched it now, I was way off. This is nowhere in the same class as the original
Jaws obviously. I really don't know why I built this up as high as I did. Even my "favorite" part of the movie, where
Brody electrocutes the shark isn't as good as I remember it to be. The movie isn't as horrible as everyone has made it out to be. But by comparison, yeah, it's not all that impressive or engaging. What's lacking is of course the characters. Without the likes of
Quint or
Hopper, the slow moments in the film seem even slower. There's some entertaining stuff to be found in this one, and even though the ending seems non-scary and kinda goofy, I still like it.
This is a
Rent and nothing more.
