The Departed: Two-Disc Special Edition (2006)

Trailer

Thank God for Martin Scorsese. If it weren't for him, Hollywood would totally suck. There are only a few Directors that deserve all the accolades they get and he is at the top (along side Ridley Scott and James Cameron). Even though The Departed is a remake of Infernal Affairs, this is just an absolutely stunning film from start to finish. If you are a fan of Scorsese or Goodfellas, then you will totally love The Departed.

Everything about this movie is top shelf, from the cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg) to Editing to the Screenplay and of course the film's soundtrack which has an amazing collection of songs that truly fit the scene it plays over. I can't say enough good things about this one. This is not only a Buy for me, but an essential addition to anyone's video library. A true masterpiece and a movie that actually deserved to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Yes. This gets 10 Stars. Deal with it.

I loved this movie. The story, the tension, the characters... everything you need for a very absorbing film.

Except for Gangs of New York, I did not care to much for DeCaprio... but this film changed my mind. I now look for films with him in it.

At the very least a rental, if not a buy.

So is this a Buy or a Rent for you?

Anyway, I've always been a huge fan of Leo. He really is this generations top actor. I use to have Johnny Depp in the same category, but ever since he has gone down the road of making those Pirate flicks, he has kinda dropped in my eyes.

For me... Rent. I'm very picky on movies I want to buy. But that doesn't say anything with regards to how excellent this movie is. If it ever comes on, I'll watch it.

Depp is also in that rare breed of actor who I admire. His breadth of work is amazing. Always interesting to watch. You don't see that very often.

The most over-rated Best Picture winner of all time. If Scorsese hadn't made this movie, it would have gone nowhere.  Go watch the film it was inspired by, Infernal Affairs. Awesome movie. You just know something is wrong when Mark Wahlberg gets an Oscar nod for basically swearing in every other line he has in this movie.  It's crap like this why I stopped watching the Oscars 10 years ago.

To be fair to Scorsese, though,  The academy always kisses his ass when he makes a "mob" or "gangster" themed film. Let him try and make something else and it's like he farted in a windowless room.  They aren't very subjective when he makes crime movies. They just kiss hiss ass.
