Jurassic Park - Collector's Edition

Trailer

Jurassic Park is a groundbreaking and amazing achievement in Special FX that redefiined computer graphics and changed film making forever and I applaud all that it did in raising the bar. But this is not a perfect movie. Far from it. I haven't watched this one in about 8-10 years and there is a reason for that. The first hour of the movie is dull and boring. Really, nothing happens at all other than seeing the Brontosaurus roaming the grounds. After that it's nothing but talk, talk, talk. I remember when I saw this in the theater when it first came out and I was beyond thrilled and ready to see the movie. Even then I was bored beyond tears. The action doesn't begin until the 1 hour mark. There's so much exposition that my mind just shuts off after 10 minutes of it.

Even after that huge T-Rex sequence, there is only one other "Set piece" left in the movie and that's the Velociraptor chase scene. That's it. For something that is as huge as Jurassic Park, it's really a lot of smoke and mirrors when you think about what you're getting on screen. The other reason why I don't come back to this movie on a regular basis is that every single human character is so uninteresting. Not one character had anything going for them. Now, you may say that in a movie like this, the human element isn't the focal point, it's the dino's.

Wrong.

Steven Spielberg already made his 'Jurrasic Park' film some 15 years earilier. It was called Jaws and it is without question the far superior film. The reason why it's so much better is because of the human element. In JP, because I don't care for the people running around the Island, I don't care what happens to them at the end of the day. In Jaws, I absolutely do care.

Having said that, the premise for JP is pretty good and as mentioned before, the Special FX is King here. I own the Box Set and even though the first hour is boring, I can still say this is worth a Rent for sure.

I love this film. When I first heard word about this movie being made, I looked into checking out the book.

Jurassic Park set me on the coarse of reading... a lot. Before, I would just read new bits and entertainment. I immeditaley took to Jurassic Park my Michael Crichton and I haven't looked back. I love to read now. Especially these kinds of story where you have just enough science and science fiction and turn it into a thriller.

It would have been cool if Spielberg could have done the whole book. There are several major scenes not in the movie that would have been soooooo cool. I like the pacing. Spielberg knows how to tell a story. I like the characters too. Even the kids.

I think this was the perfect storm. Kids have always had a fascination with dino's, the technology for the special effects were propelled forward and it's just an exciting film for 'What-if".

I'm going to have to go back and read the first two books again.  ;)

I only heard about Jurassic Park the film literally a week or so before it hit the theaters. I wasn't paying much attnention to movies in production at the time so when this hit, it hit big with anticipation for me to see it. So, because of that, I never read the book and don't know what never made it to the Big Screen.

I don't know about a Summer release, but the sequel is coming for sure. But this is definitely a movie that normally comes out in the Summer. I just haven't heard anything official in the matter.
