Homeland (Season 3 - 2013)Trailer Okay, before I dive into my thoughts on
Season 3, I had heard a lot of negative things about this season in particular 2 years ago. I didn't hear any specific spoilers per se, but I heard that this wasn't a good season. For that reason alone, I went into this with very low expectations, but cautiously optimistic that these were the rumblings of a few and not the majority as a whole. Well, personally I thought it was a solid season, if a bit uneven. Really, the only issue I had with
Season 3 was the fact that the writers basically felt obligated to shoehorn in a story line pertaining to
Dana Brody. This was akin to the major f*ckup of
Season 2 of
24 when they literally wrote
Kimberly Bauer being chased by a cougar and has become a joke ever since when it comes to dumb writers not knowing their characters or their audience.
Granted,
Dana's story here wasn't as bad as that. But what it was, was pointless and her "problems" could have been told in one or two small scenes.....not 5 episodes! We are talking about a good chunk of the first half of the season being wasted on a minor character that NOBODY gave a f*ck about in either of the first two seasons. Now we are saddled with watching her "dealing" with the aftermath of what her father
Nicolas Brody did. If that wasn't enough, we had to sit through her running away with another patient of her Group Therapy, because her new Boyfriend is the only one that "gets" her, only to find out that he is a derange maniac that killed his brother. What the f*ck was this all about? There was no resolution, if you want to call it that, other than her running away from him and back home. Really? How did any of this relate or involve the main gist of the series? The writers for this development should have been fired on the spot as it had nothing to do with what the series has been about thus far.
Other than this somewhat unfortunate deviation, the rest of the season was taut with tension with major twists along the way that left me going "Oh f*ck" as I never saw it coming. I really thought that
Carrie was being thrown under the bus for all the
CIA's problems only to find out that she initiated the idea all in an effort to jump start and huge play for the agency.
Brody may have been MIA for the first half of the season, saved for one episode devoted entirely to him. But we do get a huge comeback for the character in the second half. As before, I won't go into details for you guys, opting to let you watch and experience the show if you haven't already done so. SPOILER WARNING AHEAD: Really don't know where the show goes now that they have gotten rid of a MAJOR player on
Homeland. I was very, very sad to see this actor go. Don't listen to the critics about
Season 3. Still an amazing series and I highly recommend this as a
Rent.
