Kill Bill: Volume 2

Trailer

A lot of people that I've had discussion with over the years about Kill Bill seem to be split down the middle of which one is their favorite or which is the better Volume. Where Kill Bill: Volume 1 can best be described as an E Ticket Thrill ride at Disneyland, Kill Bill: Volume 2 could be considered the Jungle Cruise Ride....slow, methodical and plenty of time to talk to those around you. That's how I have always tried to break down with others and I think it's the perfect metaphor.

The pacing between both films is night and day. Volume 2 is where you are coming down from the adrenaline rush from the first one. That's not to say that there aren't any fight scenes here. They just aren't on the same level that we got during the set up. But I will say this, the showdown between The Bride and Elle Driver was f ucking awesome. I just wish it was longer than what we got on the screen. Darryl Hanna is so damn hot, in character or not. She has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Also good was the Pei Mei (Gordon Liu) training sequences.

If there was one complaint I do have with Volume 2, it's in the confrontation between The Bride and Bill at the end. They (he) spends a lot of time talking, which back when I saw this in the theater, I figured was going to set up the epic showdown. That didn't happen at all. It was a blink-and-you'll-miss moment. Was I let down then? Yup. Am I still let down now? Yup. When you are buidling up to the grand daddy of all confrontations and have invested 4 hours of run time to get there, you better damn well deliver on that promise.

Although this is a notch below that of Volume 1, it's still a great movie and a definite Buy for me, if and when that Mega Deluxe Special Penny Can Edition comes out.

As much as I want KB3 to happen, I'm not gonna buy anything that comes out of QT mouth in response to a random fan question.

The Bride’s daughter from “Kill Bill” is all grown up and as fierce as her (fictional) mama

I had no idea that the little girl in Kill Bill Volume 2 was the same actress in Steve Jobs. She's all grown up now indeed.
