The Fifth Element - Ultimate Edition

Trailer

Having just completed my Resident Evil Marathon, I was going through some serious Milla Jovovich withdrawal. Enter....The Fifth Element. This is just a kick ass, awesome  f u c k i n g  movie that any Sci-Fi or Bruce Willis fan is sure to love. I honestly can't get enough of this movie. Luc Besson for the win in putting this one together.

Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman may have top billing in The Fifth Element, but they are not the stars here. That honor goes to Milla and of course Chris Tucker. The first time I saw this in the theater I was just completely dumbfounded at how over the top Chris' role as Ruby Rhod was. But after about 10 minutes of his performance, I was howling with laughter, which I still am to this day. So damn funny.

But it's Milla's performance as Leeloo that gives this movie it's heart and soul and actually elevates a "typcial" Sci-Fi movie into something more...something worth fighting for. It's easy for a lot of movies to have a character that comes in to save the planet from destruction because they are "bad asses". But with Leeloo, her only motivation is to know what love is. The scene that plays out between her and Dallas (Willis) to convince her to save humanity is a brilliant and well-acted moment.

This was the movie that I fell in love with Milla. I knew her from before, but in this one, her vulnerablity was what sold me on her. A great performance on her part and for me it's still her best role. Period. Love the way she speaks the Ancient Language too.

This is a must-own DVD. Highly recommend this is a Buy.

Top 5 of my all time fav movies. If you have the edition of pop up facts and trivia, that's quit fun and revealing.

I've had the Ultimate Edition for years, but I haven't seen that option though. Do I have to set it up in Audio/Language? I see that one of the bonuses is the Feature Length Trivia Track. I'm guessing this is what you are referring to right?

So I just saw the Fathom events 4K showing of The Fifth Element... I never got a chance to see it on the big screen when it first came out (I was a FOOL!), so I made it a point to clear time on my too-busy schedule to go.  It was also the first chance I got to try out my theater's new leather recliners.  Luxury theater experience.  Did it make me want to go to the movies more?  Well, it made me really want a leather recliner and a big-screen inches from my face, so... I dunno if it worked like they expected.

The movie was still fun, and the 4K looked great (this was promotion for the 4K Blu-Ray release coming out next month, FWIW).  I noticed little details that I never saw before, like the stewardesses have blue eyebrows, there were Mangalores with glasses on, and in the opera scene, there's a shot looking up at all the balconies, and you can see the extras way in the back are wearing their own clothes... nice clothes, but not styled and fitted like the folks in the front.  And while that might break the illusion for some people, I love it.  Stuff I didn't know, y'know?

I love this movie and want the opportunity to see it in 4K for myself. I can only imagine what the world looks like in this resolution.

Incredible.  Especially the faces.  Never noticed how many lazy eyes are in the movie.

It should be out again Wednesday, the 17th.
