Kingsman: The Secret Service

There is absolutely nothing original about Kingsman: The Secret Service and that's okay as it's not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Hell, it's an homage to all things James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer, which by the way was a great nod to fans of any of those characters. Everything that happens in Kingsman: The Secret Service is in some way lifted from the best moments from previous Spy films and TV shows. Now, what is original is in how Matthew Vaughn goes about translating the story to the big screen. Obviously the best scenes are the fight sequences because of their kinetic energy and how they were filmed. They are so over the top ridiculous in its choreography that it makes the same scenes in The Matrix look slow and dull by comparison. The way the movie was shot reminded me of Guy Ritchie at times.

The cast of characters in Kingsmen really sell it and make the plot hum along. Never in a million years would I have Colin Firth as a legit Action Hero and he pulls it off and makes it look easy, without ever breaking a sweat. He owns it here. Sam Jackson is great as the Villain. I'm glad they got Michael Caine in this as well. I was half expecting him to name-drop Austin Powers in some way.  ;D I highly recommend this as a Rent, although I'm sure I will eventually Buy a copy for myself down the road.

You see, this is something I love about Mark Millar, he takes stuff that's on everybody's tongue and finds a way to say something enw and surprising with it... but I do think he's a bit hard to swallow sometimes (like in Nemesis) without someone like Matthew Vaughn to help temper it and add some flavour.  So I definitely hope that the success of this flick leads to more collaborations between them.  They've got a good team going.
