Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
Special Collector's Edition

Trailer

Since I wasn't a big fan of Lara Croft Tomb Raider, I never had any interest in renting The Cradle of Life back when it first came out. On the surface Cradle of Life looks a feels more like a James Bond flick then it does an Indiana Jones flick. It has the same look and beats of what makes a Bond movie fly. For a movie that has 'Tomb Raider' in its title, there isn't much tomb raiding to be found. Cradle looks great with its globetrotting locales, but it's not very exciting and the action pieces are kind of boring. It has a 'been there, done that' feel to it. The villain was lame and the ending didn't justify sitting through the movie at all. Very weak.

I will say that I did like the 'Ghost Monsters' that were there to protect and guard Pandora's Box, but other than that, this is an average movie at best. Definitely a Skip if plot, story and characters are important to you. You're not gonna find it here. Gerard Butler and Djimon Hounsou also co-star, but even they can't save the movie. I've heard other people saying that Cradle is better than the first. My guess is that they were paid to say that. It's not.

I love how the DVD cover says "it's fun," implying that the first one wasn't.  And I guess I agree.  But again, it's been a while...

I very rarely ever agreed with Roger Ebert on any of his reviews. As I remembered it, I agreed more with Gene Siskel. But that too doesn't mean he was right all the time. Just some of the time. He did however have a higher ratio than Ebert in movie reviews that were on the money.

I couldn't even read Ebert's name on that JPG.

Honestly, all I remember from these movies was how good Jolie looked in some of those get-ups.  I honestly don't remember any of the characters or plot or any of that sort of thing.  Actually, I DO remember that the butler and the computer guy accidentally got married at the end.   That's it.

And these movies, I think, are what got her serious about Cambodia and to her work with the UN so I guess cinema's dent is humanity's gain.
