It has to be at least 15 years if not longer since the last time I saw Boyz n the Hood. I'm thinking 20 years to be exact. In either case, it has been a long time and yet watching it today, it all felt very familiar. Maybe it has to do with how influential the movie is and how many times it has been references elsewhere. For me, this was kind of a real eye opener, much like Colors was, which came out a few years earlier. But Boyz was from the perspective of those living in a violent neighborhood.....world. I loved the movie then, but damn it has really started to show its age today.

Back then, the lingo was still new and different for me. Listening to the dialogue today made the film almost seem like it was one long cliche because it has been done to death since then. I guess that just goes to show how much of an impact its had on the world as well as film in general. Also, the movie isn't a violent as it was hyped to be back in the day and certainly not by today's standards.  I still think its a great movie and everyone involved brought something unique to it. But it's not the same movie as I once remembered it to be. Definitely worth a Rent if you haven't seen this one before. Great cast that includes Cuba Gooding, Jr., Ice Cube, Laurence Fishburne, Nia Long, Regina King and Angela Bassett. Written and Directed by John Singleton.
