Because You Left

Although I personally like the episode and never got lost watching it, I think a lot of people may have gotten confused and tuned out after this one since it was all about the people on the Island trying to come to terms with the constant "skipping" of the time traveling Island. There is a lot of stuff that is being thrown at the viewer and if you're not on the ball, I can see how easily it would be to lose track. As I mentioned in my review of Season 4, I never had a problem with the whole Time Travel angle of the series.

The Lie

Good episode, not great. The entire hour consist of Hurley lugging a comatose Sayid around after being shot by a Tranq dart. Hurley confesses to his mother about the Lie that the Oceanic Six have been living since returning home from the Island. Ben is trying to round up the gang to take back to the Island but loses Hurley when he surrenders to the Cops and back on the Island, another "unknown" group attacks the Tribe (Saywer, Juliet, etc...) back at camp. Since this was bascially a Hurley episode, it gave us a chance to reconnect with former cast member Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez).

Jughead

This is one wacky episode. Try and follow along. Desmond sets off on his journey to find Faraday's mother from a "Dream" that he had back on the Island in which Faraday contracts him in the past, something that never happened. You still with me? Back on the Island in 1952, Sawyer, Juliet and everyone else are captured by "Soldiers" that are not "Others". John tries to convince Alpert that he is his leader....50 years in the future and in other news, we meet two kids in this little band of thieves. One of them is Ellie and the other one turns out to be Charles Widmore. You still here? It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. It's actually pretty clear cut. I just can't do any better in trying to paint a picture for you.

I decided to not to mention the big ass Atom-Bomb that they are protecting. Too much for all of you peeps to handle.

The Little Prince

This episode felt more like a filler episode than the last, even though there was a pretty significant reveal at the end. But everything up to it was more of the same with the gang wandering around the Island and jumping time. There was a cool moment when the gang ends up in time when their other selves were already on the Island. We get to see the Light in the sky coming from the Hatch (Locke pleading to the Hatch to open itself) and Sawyer from afar got to see Kate helping Clarie give birth to Aaron.

The big reveal at the end was that Jin was discovered floating on debris out in the middle of the ocean by a group of French Scientist. Yes, THAT group, the one that also has a very young and very pregnant Danielle Rousseau.

This Place is Death

I guess you can say this more of the same as Jin after seeing some of what Danielle has talked about regarding killing off her team, Jin is reunited with his old gang of Sawyer, Juliet, Locke and the rest. They head to the Orchid in hopes that something there will stop the flashes. Charlotte reveals to Faraday that she once lived on the Island and that before she left the Island, a man approached her and told her never to return for it would be the end of her. That man was....Faraday. You following? Back on the mainland, Ben rallies what's left of the troops and takes them to the Church to meet with Faraday's mother Eloise. Desmond arrives at the same time. What a coincidence. Fade to black........As wacky as this episode is, I found it to be slightly better than the last one for sure.

316

For an episode that is basically 'get on the plane, head to the Island, and then crash' and nothing more, it's surprisingly engaging. There are smaller moments like Jack refusing to read John Locke's "suicide" letter or Ben calling from a pay phone beaten and bloody with no explanation. But that's about it. The nice twist at the end had Jin, wearing a Dharma Initiative uniform meeting Jack, Kate and Hurley at the lagoon...gun and all. The other awesome twist was the return of Frank Lapidus as the pilot of fateful Flight 316.

I also liked the fact that they had Sun seperated from Jack, Hurley and Kate. This way it gives us the viewer something to look forward to with Sun and Jin reuniting. Had Jin just "found" her with the gang, it wouldn't have been monumental. It would have been anticlimactic to say the least,

The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham

It seems like we have be hearing all about Jeremy / John Locke's suicide for such a long time. Seems like 2 seasons worth of episodes. So, finally, we get to see the back-story of how John ends up back on the mainland and how his "suicide" came to be. It was cool to see him trying to get the Oceanic 6 (actually, just 5 since Aaron doesn't have a say in the matter). Also cool to see John visit Walt. But it's the end that we have all been waiting for. We see that John is on the verge of hanging himself when he is interrupted by Ben Linus of all people, who actually talks him down, thus avoiding suicide all together, only to have Ben turn around and kill him. The first time I saw the episode it made no sense that he would save him and then kill him. The explanation behind this is forthcoming. But it sure didn't sit well with me before.

LaFleur

A very interesting episode that literally picks up right where Sawyer lowers John into the Well, which leads to him moving the Island again, thus stopping them from traveling through time. But Sawyer, Juliet, Daniel and Miles don't stop in their time. They end up in 1974, still on the Island and still with the Dharma Initiative still a thriving community, with Horace running the show. The episode basically tracks 3 years of the gang first trying to stay within the community to actually being one of the DI's with Sawyer taking on the name LaFleur. The episode ends where Jin bringing Jack, Hurley and Kate back to Sawyer....

It's a great episode that I never get tired of watching and they did something brilliant with Sawyer and Juliet falling in love with each other in the 3 years they have been waiting for Jack and company to return. It's not just some fling either. They truly love each other which makes Kate's return into Sawyers life all the more compelling.

Namaste

Fantastic episode where we get to see how Sawyer has adapted to being a member of the Dharma Initiative when he has to think on his feet and maneuver Jack, Hurley and Kate into the DI as new recruits. He also has to think on his feet when a member of the DI captures Sayid. But the biggest and best twist obviously come at the end. We see that Sun, Ben and Frank landed not only on the wrong Island but in the wrong time, while Sayid comes face to face with little Ben.

He’s Our You

This is all about Sayid and the question "If you could go back in time and kill Hitler, would you?" In the case of Lost, that would be Ben. So, it's all leading up to when Ben helps Sayid escape captivity and the moment of truth, does Sayid kill Ben? The answer is Yes. Everything leading up to the ending was great, especially seeing how Sayid was caught and handcuffed getting onto the plane that brought him back to the Island.

Whatever Happened, Happened

Sayid thought that by shooting Ben (and hopefully killing him) he would be able to avert all the bad things that are to come to pass 30 years later. Unbeknownst to him, Sayid shooting him actually starts the whole thing. With Jack refusing to help Juliet save Ben, it's up to Kate and Sawyer to take Ben to Richard Alpert. And by turning him over to 'The Others', Ben's future self is now in place and everything we have seen (Season 1-4) will now happen. Very good stuff here. I liked the argument between Hurley and Miles in how they are trying to dissect the "space time continuum" of Time Travel. The nod to Back To The Future was priceless.

Dead is Dead

A decent episode where we track Ben on and off the Island. We see him kidnap Alex. We see his confrontation of Charles Widmore. We see him take control as the new leader of the 'Others', we see how Ben got those nasty cuts and bruises on his face as well as the broken arm (courtesy of Desmond) before returning back to the Island. But the biggest thing about this episode was Ben's confrontation and judgement by the 'Smoke Monster'. I say it's a decent episode and not spectacular one because the story really didn't advance as much as just doing a bunch of callbacks.

Some Like it Hoth

A very cool and at times a very funny episode. This one is all about Miles as a kid, showing his ability to communicate with those not of this Earth anymore. But the biggest reveal is that Miles father turns out to be none other than Dr. Pierre Chang (François Chau), also known Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmund, and Dr. Edgar Halliwax. If that doesn't ring a bell, he's the dude in all the Dharma Initiative videos. With all the time traveling things, it can get a bit heavy at times, so enter Hurley and his secret project which is basically writing The Empire Strikes Back with some "minor improvements" to send off to George Lucas. Ha. Nice touch. Also cool to see that Faraday has returned to the Island as a scientist on the Dharma Sub.

The Variable

Awesome episode that requires the viewer to pay attention to get the meaning of the payoff. With Daniel Faraday back on the Island, he sets a course to change the perceived outcome of the future. His goal is to set off the Hydrogen Bomb that he had the 'Others' bury on the Island. But first he has to find his Mother. Elsewhere, Faraday's mother convinces her son to take up Charles Windmore's offer to go to the Island, but she is distraught about it. Why? Well, back in 1977 she shoots and kills him. You see, she knew what she would end up doing, and he figures out as his light dims that she would do it. Pretty heady stuff and something I never saw coming the first time around when watching this one. Also, it's revealed that Charles is his father.
