Miami Vice
Unrated Director's Edition

Trailer

I didn't think it was possible for a Michael Mann movie to suck. I stand corrected and its name is Miami Vice. How does Mann f*ck up his own property. This is his baby and yet the movie felt like it was someone else behind the camera. This is Miami Vice in name only. It bears no resemblance to the TV Series of the same name. Sure, we have Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Tubbs (Jamie Foxx), but they too have no direct connection to the characters made famous by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. One set of actors had fantastic chemistry, the other had none. I will let you decide who I am talking about.

This movie was incredibly boring and uninspiring. It's a story we have seen done a million times before and it brought nothing new to it. But it was the characters that I really had a problem with. They are all walking cliches with no depth to them at all. I didn't really have any problems with Foxx for the most part. But I certainly did with Farrell. If there was ever an actor totally miscast for a role, it was him. But to be fair, any actor would have suffered the same fate of being compared to Don Johnson. This is why remakes and reboots of TV shows don't work. When a series is so iconic like Miami Vice and the actors that gave their characters life, the film is doomed to fail right out of the gate. This is a Skip. Do not believe the hype or reviews of others that rave about Miami Vice. It's clear they have very low standards. If you want a great Michael Mann film to watch, stick with Heat and Collateral.

Never saw the series, and never cared to check out the cop movie.

I'll pass.

Never really felt compelled to watch this one.  Sounds like I made the right choice.
