Midnight Run

Trailer

Long before Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence became the 'odd couple' with electric on screen chemistry, there was Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin in Midnight Run. On a personal level, I thought that this was one of the best movies of the decade when it came out. As a filmgoer, I think it's one of the best in the 'Buddy' genre itself. There is absolutely no denying the chemistry that both De Niro and Grodin have. They are so good together that they take a simple plot and gives us some fantastic comedic moments. Add to the equation with the addition of John Ashton, Yaphet Kotto and Dennis Farina and you have yourself an instant and timeless classic. I've watched this plenty of times over the years and it's only getting better each time.

The one thing that I thought the studio dropped the ball on was the chance to turn this into a franchise. Sure, they would have to rework the plot in a completely different way from the first. But all the elements were in place for a long running series. It's always bummed me out that this was all we got. That is until........more on that a bit later.

I highly recommend this as a Buy. This definitely belongs in everyone's personal DVD Library.
