I'm a sucker for Sports flicks, especially Baseball. Add in the underdog element and it's all but guaranteed that I will see the movie. So, naturally I was very much looking forward to
Million Dollar Arm and was hopeful it would deliver what I want from my Sports movie. The movie is good, but since I have a handful of other Sports movies that I hold in high regard, this one comes off a bit light in a lot of departments. It's a good, decent flick and the story itself is unique and because it's also a true story, you do have a little more invested in it. But as a whole, it never really gave me that thrill that I'm seeking. I never once got that underdog feeling from it, like going up against a Heavyweight Champion. The "love story" was a bit forced and I didn't detect any kind of onscreen chemistry between the leads. It's definitely worth a
Rent, but I wouldn't put this in my Top 10 when it comes to Sports flicks. I would definitely recommend checking out
The Rookie, which is somewhat similar and it nails it in every way possible, the way I wanted this one to be.
