The first thing you think of when talking about Die Another Day is that this is the most polished Bond film in its entire run, and that includes everything that's come after it. It's a slick production from start to finish and the gadgets are something that most fans of the series will get a kick out of. Well, all but one. Yes, I've heard countless times of people bashing Bond's invisible car. Yes, maybe it was 'jumping the shark' a bit, but honestly, I never had a problem with it in spite of it being a bit hokey. It's not the car that undermines the movie, it's some bad Special FX shots that were groan inducing when it came out and even more so now having just watched this again. The biggest offender was when James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is Para-Surfing. Oh man, that was BAD composting. Really bad. I don't know how that ever got through without it being fixed.

And as far as Halle Berry as Jinx is concerned, she is by far one the hottest Bond Girls ever. She rocked that Bikini and looks so damn fine. But as an ass-kicking Agent, sorry, she is still outclassed by Michelle Yeoh. One final thing, I missed seeing Desmond Llewelyn as Q as John Cleese takes over full time as the new 'Man of a thousand gadgets'. Copyright and trademarked. I just came up with that!! Mine!!

Anyway, even with some bad Special FX, I actually like the movie and found it entertaining, if a bit implausible. Definitely worth a Rent.

I remember lots of chatter about a Jinx spin-off as Bond was losing its' luster.  She's really all I can remember about this flick (and I think I saw it about the same time as Swordfish, so you can imagine my warped memory of her character).

Near the end, the Q scenes-- especially the ones with John Cleese-- were my fave moments of the movies, if not the only ones worth watching.  And of course, I do like that the new Q in Skyfall sort of stole his scene in a completely different way.  He sort of had to, to keep that tradition alive.

I heard rumors of spin-off back in the day. I don't know if this was really in serious talk or just a rumor from fans. But I knew that it wouldn't happen when MGM was falling apart financially.

The swimsuit still sticks in my head, not just because the scene looked so good and they milked it for all it was worth in the promotional material, but because it was a copy of the Ursula Andress one, and they used it in Austin Powers at about the same time as well, it's just a big flashing light in my head that blares "no new ideas."  Which petty much sums up what I remember about the flick.  As well as having no idea what the bad guy's goal was.  The whole supervillian thing was getting quite stale at this point, so the reboot was quite welcome.

I just finished watching this morning and I can say, I understand why Pierce Brosnan wanted out of this roll. For me this just had more of a cartoonish look and feel. I think looking back now with a Bond that could do certain real life things in a realistic world, movies like Die Another Day verge on the fantastical. I now like my Bonds grounded in reality.

Even when this movie came out I had such a hard time with the invisible car. The surfing the Tsunami jumped the shark for me and again the whole satellite, laser beam... ugh.

I'm not a huge Bond fan, but I do want to check out the Skyfall and rather enjoy the Daniel Craig take in the series.

I think that's why I like Daniel Craig's version of Bond. It's more reality-based than stuff that's come before it. So when you stack Die Another Day next to his, it's gonna look pretty ridiculous. Having said that, I still like the absurdity of this one. I do look forward to the installment that has Craig's Bond on Mars though.
