Trailer

Although Scream never scared me when it first came out, this was still a great movie. The script by Kevin Williamson is pretty clever with its Pop Culture references and inside jokes, including the cameos from the likes of Henry Winkler and Linda Blair and the "Rules" of the Horror genre itself. The movie still to this day looks and feels fresh and was edited in a way to make it an instant classic. But getting back to my earlier statement, this was never, ever a scary movie and over the years its gotten to the point where it's like watching a PG movie more than anything else. It doesn't help that in the time that this movie first came out, Torture  P o r n  became the rage and standard and saturated the market, making this film, as great as it is, the odd man (film) out.

I actually prefer to watch this over any movie that may have more gore if the script itself is just dumb. That's the lasting legacy of Scream, the plot, although not original, is very entertaining in how it's presented. I liked the movie enough to actually go out and buy the Screenplay in book format many many years ago and it's just as fun reading too. I did and still do find it quite humorous in how much of an ass kicking Ghost Face takes at the hands of Drew Berrymore, Neve Campbell and Rose McGowan. Talk about a clumsy Killer(s). Also great was Courtney Cox who managed to do something impssible at the time.....shed 'Monica Gellar' from Friends. Another great film from Wes Craven for sure.

The DVD copy I have comes from my Scream Trilogy Box Set. Definitely recommend this as a Buy.
