Napoleon Dynamite

Trailer

I've been hearing about Napoleon Dynamite for years. It's actually become part of geek speak as if you needed to see the movie in order to understand and be a part of an exclusive club or something. It's pervasive when talk of High School movies come up. But for whatever reason, the movie just never found its way into my hands until today. And I will say that the first 15 minutes or so just had me completely baffled. This was some pretty horrendous wooden acting and the script and dialog was amateurish at best. But a funny thing happened along the way, I finally got it, so much so that the bad acting actually started to add to the charm of the movie. It became endearing and I couldn't wait to see more of the same as the movie chugged along.

I love the movie in spite of the bad acting and even worst writing at the hands of Jared Hess. If they ever do a seminar on how not to write and edit a film, this would sit right at the very top. So, how to explain why everything that is wrong with the movie still kicks ass? I really want to know. It just goes to show that you apparently don't have to follow a certain formula in order to succeed in film making and I find it a breath of fresh air. So, would I ever watch this again? Hell f*cking yeah I would! Not only that, I intend to Buy the DVD. Must add to my personal DVD Library.

Jon Heder is bizarre to say the least, but he's awesome. The rest of the cast is just as great too, which includes Efren Ramirez, Aaron Ruell, Jon Gries and Tina Majorino, who I had no idea was even in this. As soon as I saw her pop up, that's when I knew I was in for a treat. I love Tina! So yeah, I highly suggest you guys check this out if you haven't already done so.

I never finished this because of the bad acting or bizarre premise. I just don't think I got it. Then again, I don't think it's for me.

I totally get where you're at because I was literally *holds thumb and index finger apart* this close to turning it off myself. So, the fact that I can rave about it says something. I can see it being an acquired taste for most people.

I stayed till the end, I didn't like it either but I get why people did, it was quirky and strange and unapologetic about it, but it was genuine, they knew what movie they were making and while I didn't get it, I knew that it was coming from an honest place that people were responding to.
