Nip/Tuck (Season 6 - The Final Season - 2009)

Trailer

There's good and there's bad with Season 6 of Nip/Tuck. First the bad. I absolutely hated the idea of bringing in Rose McGowan to replace Katee Sackhoff in the role of Teddy. This isn't a knock against Rose. I just don't like it when a character that is created to perfection is suddenly replaced by someone else. The entire time I'm watching Rose on screen, I can't help but picture Katee and how she would have played the part. Since the character wasn't all that important in this season, given the fact that they killed her off soon after, it just would have been much better to have killed the character off before the season started and done a cursory exposition about her after the fact. That's how I would have approached it.

As for wrapping up loose ends, the biggest of course is Ava / Matt. Even though it was great to finally get Ava back, the resolution was pretty lame. Having them walking off into the sunset just goes to show how pathetic the Matt character is, especially him basically using his own daughter as a bargaining chip to coerce a "relationship". Hey, at least he stayed true to his character being the perpetual f*ck up that he is. It still wasn't a great way to wrap up it though IMO.

The other major story Arc they needed to wrap up was of course The Carver story line with Quentin and Kit. Unfortunately, they never materialize and we will always be left with a woulda, coulda, shoulda with regards to those characters. I think Ryan Murphy dropped the ball on his chance to give the viewers some closure because ever since the end of Season 3, it has always been in the back of our minds, "what's gonna happen when they cross paths again". The other thing I'm disappointed in is that they also didn't give us closure on Eden's story line as well which could have been dealt with in a few episodes. Oh well.

With this being the final season, you knew they would have to bring back some characters from the past, namely Escobar, which as it turned out to be, was the absolute best episode of the season. I was hopeful that we would get one last episode from Bobolitt and Mrs. Grubman as well. We don't. What I didn't like for sure was the drastic reduced role for Julia. Out of 19 episodes, she appeared in only 3. Sigh.

Still, with these issues at hand, there is still a lot of great episodes to be had. I do like that the series final season was about splitting up the business and that the most selfish person on the show, Christian Troy, would do the most selfless thing and that was allowing, er forcing, Sean to go do what he wanted to do. I liked the final scene with Troy in the bar, which is basically a call back scene for how he first met Kimber. It would have been cool had he imagined her sitting there, giving Kimber one last scene before the final credit role. Definitely worth a Rent.
