No Escape

Trailer

A couple of months ago while I was looking online at new orders for my Library branch, I saw a title called 'No Escape'. Just the title itself made me think it's a prison flick (which I'm a fan of) and if it wasn't a prison flick, then maybe it was Sci-Fi related....or maybe it was both. Win-Win! So, it arrived yesterday and when I went to pick it up and saw the cover and saw Owen Wilson, it dawned on me that this is the movie that had the one scene from the trailer and the only thing I remember from the trailer was where he throws his daughter from one rooftop to another. That scene is what most people remember or talk about. The other thing I remember when I saw the trailer is "why are they using Owen in this flick?' He seemed like the oddest choice for what looked like an action flick.

Cue up the movie. The opening sequence set up everything nicely. And then the next 15 minutes had me questioning if sitting through this would be worth it. It was a bit overlong and slow. But once you get past this, it's intense until the very end with one moment to take a breather. My biggest concern was Hollywood trying to turn Owen into an action hero and no matter how hard they tried, it was never going to work. Happy to say they didn't go there. They kept it real by making it where Owen has to suffer the repercussions of killing someone in the name of protecting his family. Back in the opening setup, as soon as I saw Pierce Brosnan in the flick, I knew that it would be him and him alone to save the day. I dug the inside joke after the fact in relation to him working for "British Intelligence". Bond. James Bond. I'm sure this was received well in a packed theater. ;) If you are looking for a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this is the one to check out. Highly recommend.
