Frequency

Trailer

I absolutely love Frequency. I think it has a great spin on the whole Time Traveling genre. But this isn't your typical 'stepping into a Machine or Wormhole and coming out the other side' plot device. The spin is that it involves a Father played by Dennis Quaid and his Son, played by Jim Caviezel using the "mother of all sun spots" to communicate via a Ham Radio 30 years apart. The kicker is that for John (Caviezel), his father died 30 years ago and with this miracle of communication, he sets out to save his father's life, thus altering everything that comes after the fact.

It's been said in pretty much every single time travel Movie and TV Show that you can't change one thing without messing up history and in Frequency, it sets off a chain reaction that both have to work hard to fix. Having saved his father's life, it's now his mother that suffers the same fate, albeit in a more gruesome manner when she becomes a victim of the Nightingale Serial Killer. So, the later half of the movie turns into what is basically a forensics murder mystery and they both work together to catch the killer before he strikes again. I'll leave it at that. Not gonna spill the beans at how the payoff plays itself out for those that have yet to see this gem of a movie. Let's just say it pays off in a very satisfying way.

The acting is pretty damn good. It's actually the best part of the movie, more so than the fantasy element of the plot. Both Quaid and Caviezel although never sharing any screen time together throughout the movie, have fantastic on-screen chemistry. Their banter is both touching and informative to keep the story moving forward.

I own this and can easily recommend this as a Buy. Fantastic cast that also includes Andre Braugher, Elizabeth Mitchell, Shawn Doyle and Noah Emmerich. Be on the lookout for a very baby-faced Michael Cera. Very underrated movie that I never hear anybody else talking about at all, which is a shame. Speaking of owning this DVD, I thought I had lost my copy as I searched in vain a couple of months ago and couldn't find it anywhere. It had been so long since the last time that I saw this that I didn't even remember that Cera or Mitchell was even in this.
