O c t o p u s s y
Ultimate Edition

Trailer

O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. O c t o p u s s y. What a great name for a James Bond film! What a great name for a Disney film!!! What a great name for any film!! Too bad the name is really the only good thing about the movie. I literally have not see this movie in over 25 years, maybe even longer than that. I do remember liking the movie a lot when I saw it in the theater and eventually on HBO and VHS. But with so much time between the last viewing and tonight, boy this is nowhere near as good as I remember it to be. However, I do disagree with the general public that seems to have this lower than For Your Eyes Only, but that's not saying much.

People like to point to Moonraker as the moment where James Bond 'jumped the shark'. I disagree with that too. How can you overlook a movie that literally has Bond swinging on a vine in the jungle with the obligatory 'Tarzan' yell, followed by Bond in a Gorilla suit, culminating with him in Clown Makeup? That's the moment where Bond truly 'jumped the shark'. Can you imagine Connery doing that? Brosnan? Craig? Even earlier Moore? Of course not.

With that said, I did find a couple of good scenes and definitely one of the best punchlines to a joke and that's the opening bit when Bond pulls up to the gas station in his mini-plane and request the attendent to "fill 'er up". It's actually the one thing I still remember from that day I saw the movie in the theater. Good jokes always last. Bad movies do not.

This is a Skip.

I see what you did there   ;)

I guess I was a little thrown when you started off, with earlier Bond reviews, saying Moore was one of your more fav Bonds. I would take it has a lot to do who we were exposed to in our formative years  :)

Well for me, Roger Moore was THE Bond because that's who I started with. Also, when his movies were coming out regularly and I was seeing them in the theater, the movies for the most part were really enjoyable. Even when I owned all of Connery's and Moore's Bond flicks on VHS, I still got a kick out of them. But watching them now on DVD with so much passage of time since those days, they have not aged well. I'm speaking of the movies.....not the dudes that play the title character.
