I love movies that take place in the Mall
(Fast times at Ridgemont High, Jackie Brown, etc....), but there is a reason why
Observe and Report was never on my list of movies to see. I knew what kind of movie it would be and what kind of character
Seth Rogen would be playing. I like
Rogen in some of his movies, but truth be told, he has more misses than actual hits. The films in which he is part of an ensemble or where he doesn't have to carry the load seem to be his best for that very reason (
The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Guilt Trip, Superbad). So, you would think that
Observe and Report would fit into the 'ensemble' film and be the same right? Wrong. Even though this has the likes of
Ray Liotta, Michael Peņa, Anna Faris, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride, Collette Wolfe and
Patton Oswalt, it's a horrible movie. In spite of a couple of "funny" bits, this is not a movie that I would ever recommend to anyone. This is a a
Skip. With that said, I will say that I kind liked the dark tone of the film and was surprised at
Rogen shooting the Flasher at the end. It definitely served up something different from the norm. Still not a good movie though.
