Ocean's Twelve

Trailer

I love Ocean's Eleven and had every intention of seeing Ocean's Twelve. But then the reviews started coming out and it was getting crapped on.....a lot. So much so that I just decided I wasn't going to ever see it. And then Ocean's Thirteen came out few years later and got rave reviews, that it redeemed the franchise and I wanted to see this. But since I'm very much a stickler for having to watch everything in order, I had to pass on this one as well because I never saw the 2nd one. That is till now.

The concept for Ocean's Twelve is that the gang has to pay back the money they stole from Benedict (Andy Garcia) in the first movie or they all die. But somewhere along the way it becomes a  p i s s i n g  contest against another Thief that wants the title "Best ever". So their preparation to get to the golden goose so to speak is met by a series of roadblocks in the form of Catherine Zeta-Jones. And oh, what a form it is.

I thought the inside joke about Tess having to play a part on the team for the heist as "Julia Roberts" was fun. Even Bruce Willis' uncredited cameo was a nice surprise.

So, is Ocean's Twelve as bad as most people say it is? Nope. Is it as good as the first one? Nope. It falls somewhere in between. I think the biggest thing that hurt it is the fact that it's in a foreign land and not on US soil. I think part of the charm of the first one is that it was a bunch of guys taking down a Las Vegas  C a s i n o . Anyone that's been in Vegas has always dreamed about getting back at them for taking all of our money. So this one was definitely lacking the original charm for sure. The other thing that is kind of unforgivable is the ending. It diverges from what we the viewer were expecting to see only to get something else all together by way of flashback. The con doesn't even happen in the same place. Those are my only negatives. Up to this point it was a pretty decent movie. But it's not a bad movie by any stretch.

I can say this is worth at least a Rental and you will definitely want to throw this in the mix if you intend to have an Ocean's Marathon like I'm having at the moment.
