Some people rave about Basic Instinct and other's say it's the worst piece of sh*t ever. I'm middle of the road when it comes to this one. The story is above average in the mystery department, but when I first saw this in the theater, I had it "figured" out almost instantly, so it kind of failed there for me. I knew that Beth (Jeanne Tripplehorn) would turn out to be the "killer" in the end. Well, I knew that she would be framed for it that is. The thing that I don't like about Basic Instinct is Michael Douglas' character. All the way through the movie, I'm always wishing that Catherine (Sharon Stone) would kill him. Nope. Never happens. They should have had her kill him off at the very end, which in my eyes would have been a great way to end the movie and make it better than the end results. Oh well....

The other thing I don't like about the movie is the horrible dialogue. I seriously don't get how this f*cking hack Joe Eszterhas has ever managed to get any of his screenplays sold. Just take a look at the guys filmography and you will see a laundry list of dreck. The one good thing the movie does get right is the abundance of  n u d e  and sex scenes involving Stone and Tripplehorn. This alone makes it worth a Rent.

IMO, just another mystery thriller.
