Panic Room
3-Disc Special Edition

Trailer

My Jodie Foster marathon continues....

Before the movie ever came out in the theater, I was very skeptical of the idea that anyone, let alone David Fincher, would be able to sustain the tension needed for a thriller like Panic Room. It was hard to imagine how much you could do with what is basically a one-location film. Yeah, the house itself has plenty of floors and lots of individual rooms and one big ass Panic Room, but I still thought the premise would be very limited. Imagine my surprise when I saw it on opening day that Fincher actually pulled it off with great finesse.

Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart and Forest Whitaker were all great in this. Jared Leto and Dwight Yoakam were perfectly cast as the villains. Yes, Whitaker was one of the bad guys, but one with a heart. Anyway, as great as the actors were, this was ALL about David Fincher and his stylistic choices in the way he shot the movie. The editing and pacing are top notch, building the tension to great effect as we move along story wise. If there is one criticism I have with the movie, it's that the payoff at the end didn't deliver for me in a way that I wanted. By that I mean I was expecting a lot more than what we eventually get. Other than this little misstep at the end, the movie is nearly flawless.

I own the 3 Disc Special Edition and would recommend that you get this particular version of the movie on DVD.

I can't believe I still haven't watched this, I've had a stray disc for years and years and never looked at it.  Although by now I'm sure I could find it in HD somewhere, and I don't even know if the disc will play at all.

That's crazy! I've stumbled across it by accident 100's of times looking for stuff to watch.

I'm like Neumatic in the sense I've never just happened across this flick. Not sure I'd watch it, because I did find it a little absurd about panic rooms, let alone a huge one in a huge house for these two. I forget the premise of how that happened. Anyway, if I should run across it, I should give it another chance. I might find I like it. It's happened before.

Speaking of Jodie Foster, my wife ran across Silence of the Lambs yesterday and we watched that (w/ The Exorcist) on our cold icy, rainy day.

I have Silence Of The Lambs most likely next in line in my Foster Marathon.
