Captain America: The First Avenger

Trailer

I love Superhero movies, especially when they are done right. Captain America: The First Avenger is not one of them. A good Superhero movie gives you at least 3 set pieces, one in the beginning, one on the middle and one at the end, which should be the icing on the cake for the movie. In this one we get all of "one" at the end and it's boring and rushed that it doesn't even qualify as one. The other "Set Pieces" that we get earlier in the film are montages. Really? What the  f u c k  is up with that?

The movie looks great and they assembled a decent enough cast to fill out the roles. But I think the biggest misstep here started with the script. The story was weak and outdated. Sure, Captain America himself as a character has been outdated for 70 years as he was originally created in the comic pages for the sole purpose of kicking Nazi ass. So, I knew that when the character finally got a huge Hollywood Blockbuster push that it would have to start there. But it's still unforgivable that the writers couldn't come up with a better story or with better characters. Everything was underdeveloped in one way or another.

The other problem I have with the movie is Director Joe Johnston who I thought did a  s h i t t y  job putting this movie together. Personally, I think he is overrated as a film maker and the final product here just proves that he doesn't have what it takes to do something on a scale this big. I could care less that he did The Rocketeer. Big whoop.

The best part of this movie was everything that came before they transformed Steve Rodgers into Captain America and at the end when he is confronted by Nick Fury. I can't recommend this at all. I'm still very much interested in seeing The Avengers as I know that Joss Whedon will bring his A-Game and maybe this time around he will be able to make Captain America look cool in the process. This movie is only slighty better than Wonder Woman. I would say I was more impressed with the TV Show Pilot with no budget than Captain American that had all the money it wanted at its disposal. This is definitely a Skip.

FYI, the Movie "Critic" on the DVD cover that says this is "The Best Superhero Movie Ever" should be shot. It's clear that he has no concept of A) What a good Superhero movie entails and B) What a good movie is in general.
