Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Trailer

I went into Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hopeful that it be good, but content with the idea that it would suck based on the poor track record of turning video games into movies. Even with the big set piece to open up the film, I wasn't all that impressed with what I was seeing and resided to the fact that the rest of the movie would follow down the same path. To my surprise, it got better as it went along. It's not without its flaws, namely the fact that it's by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer. If you know the name, you will get what I mean by Prince Of Persia feeling a whole lot like Pirates Of The Caribbean in look, feel and style. It's Jerry's trademark.

If you like movies like The Mummy, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, you will probably enjoy this Swords/Sandals/Fantasy Adventure movie. Prince of Persia does borrow from different films, but the films that I just mentioned are the ones that come to mind as the blueprint they followed most closely to. And while on the topic of borrowing from other source material, I'm not going out on a ledge (pun intended) to say that they also looked at the video game franchise of Assassin's Creed. Like I said, the movie gets better as it plays out, even if the plot is very predictable. As you see the story unfold, you know exactly how it will end. I definitely think this is worth a Rent to pass the time away. Very cool looking special effects, especially during the scenes of time-rewinding.

Cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley.
