The only reason I decided to finally check out the
Remake of
Race to Witch Mountain was that I was in the mood for a
Dwayne Johnson flick. I wanted something with a little bit of action, some special fx and something I really didn't have to think to much about while watching the movie. The
Remake is exactly what I thought it would be.....a souped up version of the 70's classic. The
Remake isn't bad, but it's not something I would ever revisit again. Just something I can say I crossed off my list of things to see.
Dwayne was serviceable and so was
Carla Gugino, both of who I am fans of. But this isn't either one's finest hour by a long shot.
The movie 'races' along, hitting all the beats as fast as possible. No room for exploration or characterizations. Definitely the hallmark of
Disney family fare films. For me, I would say the high-mark of the movie appears within the first 10 minutes and that's the cameo by
Meredith Salenger. As soon as I saw her on screen, the first thing that popped into my head was "
Natty Gann!" And no sooner do I think that and her newscast character signs off as 'N
atalie Gann'. Awesome! I had a major crush on her for years, but that's a story for another time. The next high-mark was waiting for the cameos by
Kim Richards and
Ike Eisenmann who played the kids in the
Original movie. I also had a crush on Kim for a long while as well and damn, doe she look good. She's aged very well. Worth a
Rent, but I would urge you to check out the
Original movie first.
