Race to Witch Mountain

Trailer

The only reason I decided to finally check out the Remake of Race to Witch Mountain was that I was in the mood for a Dwayne Johnson flick. I wanted something with a little bit of action, some special fx and something I really didn't have to think to much about while watching the movie. The Remake is exactly what I thought it would be.....a souped up version of the 70's classic. The Remake isn't bad, but it's not something I would ever revisit again. Just something I can say I crossed off my list of things to see. Dwayne was serviceable and so was Carla Gugino, both of who I am fans of. But this isn't either one's finest hour by a long shot.

The movie 'races' along, hitting all the beats as fast as possible. No room for exploration or characterizations. Definitely the hallmark of Disney family fare films. For me, I would say the high-mark of the movie appears within the first 10 minutes and that's the cameo by Meredith Salenger. As soon as I saw her on screen, the first thing that popped into my head was "Natty Gann!" And no sooner do I think that and her newscast character signs off as 'Natalie Gann'. Awesome! I had a major crush on her for years, but that's a story for another time. The next high-mark was waiting for the cameos by Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann who played the kids in the Original movie. I also had a crush on Kim for a long while as well and damn, doe she look good. She's aged very well. Worth a Rent, but I would urge you to check out the Original movie first.

Maybe screenies for Meredith, Kim and Carla are in order.

Not going to point out that Whitley Strieber, the dude who wrote "Communion," appears in the movie as himself?  Seemed like a weird thing to put in a Disney movie (of course, I also couldn't help but notice that Christopher Marquette from "The Girl Next Door" was in the flick too).

This movie is... i have a weird emotional reaction to this movie, because when it came out, I was writing a script and I really had it in my head that I wanted Annasophia Robb to play the lead, it was about this weird orphan girl, and when I saw the pics of this movie coming out I realized she could already have been too old.  Don't write roles for kids, there's too few talented ones out there and they age out way too fast.

I've only seen Annasophia Robb via red carpet, interviews, etc....than actual films. Really can't say I know much of her career other than soundbites.

She was a real go-to kid actor, she was in a wide variety of stuff, but probably most notably "Bridge To Terabithia."  I'm sure I've seen more of her stuff but can't think of it.  But she was in my mind for a long time as my character.
