I owe
Tough Sh*t all the credit in finally getting me off my ass and searching out a copy of
Red State from my
Library. After reading the book, I was very excited to see exactly what
Kevin Smith did with the movie, especially with
Quentin Tarantino's ringing endorsement for the flick. I can see exactly why
QT had nothing but good things to say about the movie for a couple of reasons. This is clearly
Kevin Smith's ode to what makes a great
Tarantino movie. You can play
Red State right alongside any of his films. The other thing that makes this a movie to see is
Michael Parks, John Goodman and
Mellisa Leo, each doing their roles justice.
The movie isn't without flaws, as the story isn't all that original, but I like this "new"
Kevin Smith going in a different route and taking a chance on something outside his comfort zone. How long can he keep milking
Jay & Silent Bob? Hey, I love the stuff that lives in the
Viewaskew Universe, but I also want to see what he can do outside of it. Definitely worth a
Rent. Check it out.
