Rescue Me (Season 4 - 2007)

Trailer

I was trying to think of how to rate Season 4 of Rescue Me. Originally I was going to give it 3 1/2 Stars out of 5. But that's doing this season a huge disservice because it's better than that. I guess I wanted to get the point across that this season is slightly under that of Season 3. The reason why I feel that way is because they seemed to go with a lot of humor, especially when comparing it to the first 2 Seasons. This is still very much a drama, but with more emphasis on humor. In Season 1 they used humor in just the right spots to offset some very dark moments. But each season has seen the humor grow exponentially.

As for this season, there is definitely drama going on and with it some very unexpected moments that I never saw coming. At the top of the list was the suicide of Jerry, who had a big influence on the Firehouse. The loss of this character is kind of hard to get over. It's just not quite the same and is another reason why this season is below the last one. Another moment that will be hard to shake comes in the final scene of the season finale when Tommy takes his dad (Charles Durning) to a baseball game and midway through it, he passes away, slump over in his seat. Tommy, not really knowing what to do (he is a fireman after all and knows exactly what to do), decides to just sit there with his old man as the game continues on. My guess is that he didn't want his time with his dad, watching a baseball game to come to an end. It was heartbreaking and telling you about it really doesn't do it justice at all.

As with previous seasons, this one sees more stars joining the cast. A new addition to the fire crew is Larenz Tate as 'Black Sean', who is fantastic here. This isn't just a cameo, but a true addition to the cast and with him (what's looks like it) dating Tommy's daughter Colleen, he is sure to be around for awhile longer. The other addition is Gina Gershon who has never looked hotter than she does here. And what's great is her character is funny. Not sure how long her run will be, but I hope it's for awhile. Season 4 is definitely worth a Rent and gets 4 Stars.
