I've seen Amadeus a few times over the years since it first came out, probably once every 8-10 years is about right. I know the movie is revered by cinephiles the world over and yes, it is a good movie. But Opera is not my cup of tea, no matter how well a movie is directed, shot and acted, it's still a style of music that I can't get behind 100%. Even though I may watch this once every 10 years, it's only because I want something a bit different on some random night. This is not a movie that I seek out. It has to hit me at the right time before I'm willing to commit to it. But once I am able to do that, I am into the movie 100%. It's still hard for me to look past Tom Hulce in the title role and not see Pinto from Animal House. Tom is great in this movie, but the real star is F. Murray Abraham. He owns it.

Keep in mind that the movie is not completely accurate, especially that of Mozart and Salieri "bitter rivarly" and his crippling jealousy of the man and of course the rumor as to who poisoned him. We will never know one way or another. Whenever you hear the term 'taking liberties' to make a movie more engaging and compelling, they should just point to the movie Amadeus. Regardless of what is and isn't true in the film, it is definitely worth a Rent.

Never had an interest to see this, despite the music connection.
