It's not often that you will find me saying that a 5 Star movie doesn't have the impact that it once did when the movie first came out. What was groundbreaking at the time is now almost lightweight in a sense given that many things have come since then. It's not to say that Se7en has anything wrong with it. It's just that it has the misfortune of having a show called CSI come in and depict things in a far more gruesome and graphic way on a weekly basis that its made me somewhat jaded now. But back in the day, when I saw Se7en for the first time, it was the most disturbing and original movie Hollywood had put out in years and the fact that David Fincher chose to end it in the way he did was to fly in the face of status quo in regards to mindset that Hollywood films have to have a happy ending in order to be successful.

Even today, the ending of the movie still generates a good conversation among friends and movie buffs and all the credit goes to the actors in getting us there. With Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman doing a fantastic job in their roles, they set it up for the final 30 minutes for Kevin Spacey to hit a Grand Slam when it comes to his performance as John Doe. Now at the risk of spoiling anything if you should be one of the few people on the planet to have never seen this movie, I won't mention anything about the package at the end, but it's something I want to address in comparison with this movie and CSI. In Se7en, they don't show anything, but it still packs a wallop because it leaves us the viewer fill in the blanks, but on CSI, they would have and actually do show you everything. That's why watching Se7en now, feels kind of watered down when it comes to onscreen violence.

Anyway, this is definitely a Buy. Go with the Platinum Series Edition for the bonuses.

Amazing flick. It will stick with you long after you watch it.
