Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Trailer

What's better than a 'pie to the face'? How about a 'rubber ball to the nuts'. There is really no conceivable way in hell I should like Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, but for some crazy reason, I do get a kick out of watching this. A movie that centers around the idea of a Dodgeball Championship sounds exactly as asinine as the plot. But for whatever reason, it works. I dunno, maybe it's in the stupidity of the plot that makes me lose all perspective of what's really going on. Maybe it appeals to that lowest common denominator inside of me. Whatever it is, I can't seem to pull myself away from this whenever it's on cable TV. And I purposely dug it out from mothballs from my own personal DVD Library to watch it today.

Definitely worth a Rent just to see Ben Stiller do his trademark 'character dress up' that is his calling card in his career. If you don't take the movie all that seriously, you'll find yourself having fun watching this. I think the cast is great too, with Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor, Stephen Root, Justin Long, Alan Tudyk and Rip Torn adding to the festivities. FYI, the scene involving Lance Armstrong plays totally different now. Obviously I haven't watched this one in a while and I totally forgot that he was in this. But yeah, you will look at the scene and him in a different light when he pops up for 'pep talk'.

So, if you know a movie shouldn't be good and it's embarrassing to talk about in public, does that make this a 'Guilty Pleasure' movie? If so, I'm guilty as charged.

There was a while there that whenever ALan Tudyk showed up on something my sister would go "it's Steve the pirate."  Although she doesn't recognize Missi Pyle as the Lady In Red, though I'm amazed that she's so unrecognizable in that get-up.

Lemme ask you, I haven't seen this in a while, how does the Lance Armstrong scene play now?  Cause we have totally different information about him now.

And refresh my memory, I remember Patton Oswalt having a voice cameo as the dude on Ben Stiller's laptop, but was he also the video store guy's voice in the first scene with Vince Vaughn or was it someone else?

Well, in the scene, Lance is bragging about how he "won 5 straight" Tour de France and using that to inspire Vaughn's character. He just has so much baggage now that you can't help but yell at the scream and curse his name. CHEATER!

As for Patton Oswalt, he isn't in this one, not even a voice-over or a billboard in the background or even a thought by any of the actors with no lines in the film.

I'm pretty sure Patton voices the dude on the laptop...

BTW, no one can mention a sexy car wash now without me thinking of that scene with Justin and the monster truck.

Did you ever see "Accepted?"

I know I have, but I remember zilch.

Also, after watching Dodgeball, I thought of a great new thread to start. Thanks for reminding me.

No worries!  Just saw it man... now I should write one of my own.  And yeah, can't have enough Eliza.

I actually really dig Accepted, it actually articulated a lot of issues I had about college that I couldn't express and eventually lead to me dropping out, so the movie was pretty cathartic for me, it took all my problems and flushed 'em down the drain.
