Rear Window is without a doubt one of the most unrealistic movies of all time. In what world would any guy resist the idea of getting married to Grace Kelly? Exactly! Come on! Beyond this little faux pas, the movie is awesome in every way and probably my favorite film of Alfred H i t c h c o c k . What's not to love about this movie? We have the main story which is of course Jeff's (Jimmy Stewart) and Lisa (Grace Kelly), but we also get a subplot involving Lars (Raymond Burr) as the murder suspect. In addition to these nuts and bolts plot points, we get a handful of smaller stories that are being told with the rest of the neighbors. There's a lot of different stories being told, which will keep you engage in the film from start to finish. They may not be as "Important" or as big as solving a murder, but it's just as fascinating to see play out.

One thing I just noticed that I never saw before was  H i t c h c o c k ' s cameo. I actually thought it was another spot in the movie where in the background at the tail end of the alleyway on the street we see him walk into and out of frame. I'm floored that I never picked up on the fact that he was in the Piano Player's apartment, tuning/winding a clock. I guess my focus always went to the guy playing the song and to see if he was in fact playing rather than mimicking the parts.

One thing I would like to bring up is the use of Subtitles/Closed Captions for Rear Window. I've been a part of discussions on other forums in years past about the validity of using this option. I have always been a fan of Subtitles to pick up on things I would never have gotten without it. And in the case of Rear Window, it is an absolute must. I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of moviegoers that sat through this film when it came out, as well as broadcast TV and VHS. There is just no way anyone could pick up what the neighbors are saying without Subtitles. So for me, definitely use the option, because unless you have supersonic hearing, you are going to miss a lot of stuff. It may not be "vital" to the overall story, but you will still want to know exactly what they are saying. Don't you?

Anyway, this is a must-Buy DVD. Don't waste your time 'Renting' it. Just buy the damn movie! FYI, I can only imagine how audiences back in the day reacted to an attempted '****' scene. By today's standards the scene wouldn't even be considered in the same category. But back then, I'm sure it was. Also, the hot blond ballet dancer losing her top and bending over a few times throughout the movie must have gotten some flack back then as well.

Loves the Rear Window. I have been contemplating the mini Classic set with this in it. But it's on often enough to not have to own it.
