As a kid, Scarface was one of the most violent films ever. But that never stopped me from wanting to watch the movie as many time as I could. It's easy to see why Scarface was and is embraced as it is. Who doesn't like the 'rags to riches' plot? Everyone wants to make it. All the money, all the power and all the women. You can't go wrong with that right? Well, I for one wouldn't want to get there in the manner that Tony Montana does. As it's clearly illustrated at the end, you are going to have to deal with all the paranoia bullsh*t that comes with it. Yeah, keep the power....I'll keep my sanity.

As much as I liked the movie back in the day, I don't think it holds up as well as people want to say it does. Both the character and the movie are still very influential today. I just think that the writing is kind of weak in spots and as iconic as the final showdown is at the end, it was and still is a very unsatisfying ending. Sure, we all know that his demise is foretold, it's just getting there that never really made sense to me. Oliver Stone ask us the viewer to fill in a lot of holes and just assume that he has risen through the ranks as fast as he does. To me this is very lazy writing on his part. This is why the movie feels a bit rickety to me now, especially compared to more recent gangster films in the last 15-20 years, which are more complex in both story as well as character motivation. And what was once consider to be the most violent movie then, it wouldn't even register anywhere near a Saturday morning cartoon today.

It may sound like I'm bad mouthing Scarface, but I'm not. I'm just saying it has the misfortune of being so "old". But what do I know? I still see the influence it has across all mediums even today from other films, TV, Comic Books, Novels, Music Videos and of course Video Games. It even had it's moment in Wrestling as well at one time. Anyway, a very memorable cast that includes Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, F. Murray Abraham and Robbert Loggia. Definitely worth a Rent. This is still a movie that I will watch from time to time. I just don't hold it up as high as I once did when I was a kid is all.

Never cared for this flick. For the ultra-violence and the ultra cussing. Besides, bow hats to like in this character. It's bad from beginning to end. Where's the satisfaction for the viewer.

I dunno, just not entertainment to me.

I've never really felt any need to watch this movie either.  I'm sure the fact that everyone and their mother does a Tony Montana impression helped sour me on the idea of experiencing the whole thing.
