Scavenger Hunt is not a good movie by any stretch. It has its moments for sure, but it's never going to be thought of as anything close to fine art. So, if it's bad, then how come I gave it 3 stars? Well, the movie has sentimental reasons going for it that makes me over look most of the bad. Scavenger Hunt is the first movie I ever saw being shot in person. I was still in elementary school when the production crew rolled into town and shot in and around San Diego. But it's because they actually shot parts of the movie within a couple of blocks from my house that makes this more than any other movie for me. So, naturally as a kid, I spent the week watching them film scenes. There are 3 scenes in particular that really stand out for me. 1) Richard Mulligan in the old Plaza Mall with Newberry's (one of my all time fave stores as a kid) in the background still gives me a smile 2) Mulligan on Lamont Street with my Grandparents house in the background stiil gives me chills when I see it and 3) Mulligan getting run over on the same street shows the apartment I currently live in in the background, which looks sooooooooo different. Old paint job, etc....

That's why I'm being generous with the rating here. Selfish reasons, I know. Sue me. There are plenty more stories about who I ran into and what I saw during production. But that story is for another day. As for the film itself, it's basically a low rent version of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The cast for Scavenger Hunt includes Richard Benjamin, Cloris Leachman, Cleavon Little, Roddy McDowall, Dirk Benedict, Willie Aames, Robert Morley, Tony Randall, Ruth Gordon, Scatman Crothers, Richard Mulligan, James Coco, Stephen Furst, Hal Landon Jr., Avery Schreiber, Pat McCormick, and Richard Armstrong as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Meat Loaf. For locals around here, this is a must Rent to see what old PB looked like....for the rest of you guys, definitely a Skip.

I couldn't find a decent enough pic of the VHS Cover to post. So, I had to make due with the theatrical one sheet in its place. And no, to date the movie has never been released on DVD or any other format besides VHS and Beta. Watching this tonight was the first time I've watched it in over 30 years and I STILL remember everything about it like it was yesterday.
